"The mark of the immature man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause, while the mark of the mature man is that he wants to live humbly for one" (Salinger 244).
This quote from The Catcher in the Rye caught my attention because in the book An Abundance of Katherines, our main character Colin doesn't just want to be a prodigy, he wants to be remembered for something great! This helps me see that throughout the book Colin is looking for something fake and worldly instead of really connecting with himself and being who he is, but to be seen as something great towards others. It shows us how our main character Colin is immature in a sense and has to learn to grow up throughout the book. Colin thinks that the best times of his life has already passed him and says, "the problem was that this most special, magnificent, brilliant boy was—well, not. The Problem itself was that He didn't matter" Throughout the book he learns that he doesn't need to be remembered for a great cause and this was because of his wonderful friends Lilly and Hassan. He learns that instead of being remembered, all he needs is true love and happiness from those who want to be around him and love him as equally as he does.
